Icelandic musician
Rebekka Ingibjartsdóttir was born in Karlsruhe, Germany to Icelandic parents. At the age of three they relocated to Iceland, and being from a very musical family she started playing the violin at the age of 5 at Allegro Suzuki school with Lilja Hjaltadóttir. At the age of 12 Rebekka moved from Iceland to Bergen, Norway with her family where she continued discovering her love for music. She was accepted to the music class at Langhaugen vgs with violin as her main subject. She played with the Bergen philharmonic youth orchestra for several years, even after starting her musicology studies at the University of Oslo. While studying musicology and singing in choirs, her interest in conducting increased and in 2017 she was accepted to the bachelor program in choral conducting at the Norwegian Academy of Music. She has studied under Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl, Vivianne Sydnes, Grete Pedersen, Sigmund Thorp, Michael Reif and Kirsten Taranger. She is an active member of Uranienborg Vocal Ensemble with conductor Elisabeth Holte and sings frequently at church services and other events in Oslo. During the pandemic she has hosted a live concert in her own living room and done several video recordings for digital events. Rebekka promotes a lot of Icelandic music in her repertoir and strives to perform music by young, icelandic composers, both as a soloist and conductor. She has been a part of premiering pieces by Finnur Karlsson, Anders Krøger, Gísli Jóhann Grétarsson and Mikael Aksnes.
Rebekka has attended many masterclasses, some of the masters are: Gunnar Eriksson, Stefan Parkmann, Jörg-Peter Weigle, Nigel Short, Florian Helgath, Håkon Nystedt and Mark Laycock.
